GeoSentinel

Electromechanical transducer for recording ground vibrations (geophone).
The geophone consists essentially of a coil and a permanent magnet, which are coupled via a spring. A ground movement leads to a relative movement between coil and magnet. Proportional to the speed of this relative movement, a voltage is induced in the coil. The arrangement of a plurality of strategically distributed GeoSentinel sensors makes it possible, for example, to monitor the progress and the intensity of debris flows and to trigger alarms.

For data reduction, the analog signals are not recorded but the number of oscillations of different amplitudes are counted. In the sensor, the ground oscillation voltage is amplified with three separate amplifications (sensitive / medium / weak), counted and simultaneously transmitted by radio to a central unit.
The wireless transmission simplifies the installation in difficult terrain, the low energy consumption makes long-term observations possible.
